The Leeds PIPES scheme will provide low carbon heat and hot water to 1,983 council tenanted homes, of which 1,440 will benefit from heating bills being reduced.
Work began on the construction of the Leeds PIPES heating network in January 2018. This work will run until Summer 2020.
Our Tenant Liaison Officers will keep you up-to-date as work progresses, and we will let you know in advance of any work which will directly affect you.

What will Leeds PIPES mean for you?
Being connected to the Leeds PIPES heat network is predicted to offer energy bill savings of between 10% and 25% per year, giving heat and hot water whenever you need it – and ensuring you only pay for the energy you use.
What work will be undertaken?
Connecting to the Leeds PIPES network will involve installing the heating pipe and connecting it to each block of apartments. Together with this, new internal heating systems as well as a smart metering solution will be installed. We will be in touch directly with affected tenants ahead of the installation of these new heating systems.
What will be installed in your property?
• New HIU – will provide instantaneous heat and water
• New internal pipework and radiators
• When connected to the Leeds PIPES heat network you will receive a vPro2 Smart Meter. This meter allows you to measure and control how much energy you are using, day and night.
Leeds PIPES will work on a ‘pay as you go’ basis. Through your vPro2 you will be able to monitor consumption and view & top-up your account balance. You will be able to top-up either online, via Direct Debit or over the phone.

A new energy centre is being built to replace the current boiler house at Saxton Gardens. This has been designed to be in keeping with the architecture of the surrounding building and has incorporated feedback from the Council Tenants.
The Saxton Gardens energy centre will ensure residents receive low carbon heat and hot water.
When will construction take place?
Construction of the Saxton Garden energy centre will begin in May 2018. Updates will follow in due course.

However, all residents will be able to choose their electricity provider, in the same way that you currently can. It is very important that you make sure that you change your tariff from an Economy 7 to a standard tariff once the district heating is installed, to avoid being over charged.
