Saxton Gardens Energy Centre – Planning Approved

We are pleased to announce that the Saxton Gardens energy centre was given planning approval on Friday 18th May 2018.

In January 2018, Vital Energi held a community consultation, giving local residents the opportunity to view the plans for the proposed energy centre which is to be constructed at Flax Place, replacing the existing pump house that is coming to the end of its life-cycle.

Saxton Gardens’ energy centre will play an important role, providing backup heat to the district heat network, ensuring a secure and reliable supply of heat and hot water to 1,983 council tenanted properties.

On Friday 18th May, Vital were successfully granted planning approval to begin the construction of the energy centre, which means work can now commence.

Progress so far has seen the demolition of the old pump house, the site compound has been assembled seeing permanent hoarding and office cabins put in place, ready for the groundworks to commence on Monday 11th June, which will involve piling, grouting and retaining walls being constructed. The district heating pipe has also been delivered to site, ready for installation in the near future.

The energy centre will be completed by April 2019.
