Extensions, additions, and completions at Leeds PIPES

The Leeds PIPES network has achieved more milestones in recent weeks, including the completion of the Phase 4a connection to St Paul’s House, the addition of two new residential connections, and the renewal of the network itself, which secures a 10-year extension of the scheme. With the UK government’s ambitious targets and new regulations taking shape, the network is driving the progress toward achieving these goals by 2050.

Two new residential properties are connecting

Flax Place at Saxton Gardens and Soyo Block D in Quarry Hill are the latest developments to join the network. This expansion will involve the installation of approximately 40 meters of district pipework, along with a range of sustainable technologies, including twin plate heat exchangers that will help to deliver affordable, low carbon heat. These two new connections will add to the 4,100 homes already benefiting from the network.

The St Pauls House connection is complete

In July 2025, our team began work on its latest connection at St Paul’s House, a Grade II listed building dating back to the 1800s, now serving as office space in Leeds’s business district. This project marked the start of Phase 4a of the network, made possible through funding from the Green Heat Network Fund. It also showcased how heritage buildings can embrace sustainability without compromising their historic character. With the connection now complete, office workers and professionals have access to the renowned network and low carbon working.

A 10-year renewal for the network

Leeds City Council has approved the renewal of Local Development Order 3 for the network for another 10 years. This decision streamlines future connections, ensuring the Leeds PIPES project can continue supplying the city with ease. Already a UK leader in sustainability, Leeds PIPES will be able to build on this success and keep driving its low-carbon mission forward.

As we enter the new year, we hope to see more connections to the affordable, reliable network. To see how you can get connected, click here
