The Chimney Arrives at Saxton Gardens

We’re pleased to report that the progress continues on the Leeds PIPES project and the striking, orange chimney has arrived and been installed at the Saxton Gardens energy centre site.

The chimney is 20m high, 2.9m in diameter and comprises 5 internal flues which are surrounded by an outer casing known as the windshield.  The chimney was manufactured in Blackpool, which arrived on site in two separate pieces and was assembled using cranes to manoeuvre them into position before a crew working in a lifting cage secured the two sections.

The solution ensures the installation adheres to the emissions and noise levels stipulated in the planning permission and to give an indication of the scale of the project, the silencers built into the flues weigh almost 1,000kg each!
